OREANDA-NEWS. On July 11, 2016 the Central Bank of the Russian Federation issues commemorative coins of:

Precious metals:

  • A silver proof coin in denomination of 3 Roubles (catalogue number 5111—0337) “The 450th Anniversary of the Foundation of Orel”;
  • A silver proof coin in denomination of 25 Roubles — “Works by Etienne Maurice Falconet” (catalogue number 5115—0120) of the series “Treasury of World Culture”;

Base metals:

  • In denomination of 10 Roubles – “Rzhev, Tver region”, “Velikiye Luki, Pskov region”, “Zubtsov, Tver region” of the series “Ancient Towns of Russia” and “Petrozavodsk”, “Feodosiya” of the series “Towns of Martial Glory”.

Description of the coins of precious metals:

A silver proof coin in denomination of 3 Roubles (fine metal content 31.1 g, fineness 925/1000, diameter 39.0 mm, mintage 3000 pcs) has the rim raised on both sides of the coin along the circumference. The edge of the coin is corrugated.

The obverse side of the coin bears a relief image of the State Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation. There are inscriptions: “РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ” (RUSSIAN FEDERATION), “БАНК РОССИИ” (BANK OF RUSSIA), the denomination of the coin — “3 РУБЛЯ” (3 ROUBLES) and the year — “2016”, an indication of the metal according to the D.I. Mendeleyev Periodic System of Elements, purity, trade mark of the Moscow mint and fine precious metal content.

The reverse side of the coin depicts relief images of the Assumption (Michael, the Archangel) cathedral, a panorama of the city and Alexander bridge over the Orlik river. There is an inscription in two lines on top: “ОРЕЛ ОСН. В 1566 Г.” (OREL FOUNDED IN 1566).

A silver proof coin in denomination of 25 Roubles (fine metal content 155.5 g, fineness 925/1000, diameter 60.0 mm, mintage 1000 pcs) has the rim raised on both sides of the coin along the circumference. The edge of the coin is corrugated.

The obverse side of the coin bears a relief image of the State Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation. There are inscriptions: “РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ” (RUSSIAN FEDERATION), “БАНК РОССИИ” (BANK OF RUSSIA), the denomination of the coin — “25 РУБЛЕЙ” (25 ROUBLES) and the year — “2016”, an indication of the metal according to the D.I. Mendeleyev Periodic System of Elements, purity, trade mark of the Saint Petersburg mint and fine precious metal content.

The reverse side of the coin depicts relief images of the statue “Winter” on the left and a portrait of Falconet against a background of the monument to Peter the Great in Saint Petersburg on the right. There is an inscription “ЭТЬЕН МОРИС ФАЛЬКОНЕ” (ETIENNE MAURICE FALCONET) along the circumference at the bottom and the dates “1741”, “1791” in two lines in the center.

Description of the coins of base metals:

Coins of the series “Ancient Towns of Russia” are 27.0 mm in diameter, combined, consist of two parts: a disc made of white metal and an outer ring around the disc made of yellow metal. Coins have the rim raised on both sides of the coins along the circumference. The edge of the coins is corrugated and has an inscription “ДЕСЯТЬ РУБЛЕЙ” (TEN ROUBLES) recurring twice and divided by asterisks.

The obverse side of the coins has inscriptions along the circumference: “БАНК РОССИИ” (BANK OF RUSSIA) on top, “2016” at the bottom. On the left and on the right sides of the outer ring of the coins there are stylized images of laurel and oak branches respectively, going over to the disc. In the center of the disc there is an indication of the face value of the coins “10 РУБЛЕЙ” (10 ROUBLES) in two lines. Inside the figure “0” there is a protective element in the form of the figure “10” and an inscription “РУБ” (RUB) visible when changing angles of vision. In the lower part of the disc there is a trademark of a Mint.

The reverse side:

  • of the first coin has relief images of a panorama of Rzhev in the center of the disc and an emblem of Rzhev on top. There are inscriptions on the ring along the circumference: “ДРЕВНИЕ ГОРОДА РОССИИ” (ANCIENT TOWNS OF RUSSIA) on top and “РЖЕВ” (RZHEV) at the bottom;
  • of the second coin has relief images of a panorama of Zubtsov in the center of the disc and an emblem of Zubtsov at the bottom. There are inscriptions on the ring along the circumference: “ДРЕВНИЕ ГОРОДА РОССИИ” (ANCIENT TOWNS OF RUSSIA) on top and “ЗУБЦОВ” (ZUBTSOV) at the bottom;
  • of the third coin has relief images of a panorama of Velikiye Luki in the center of the disc and an emblem of Velikiye Luki on top. There are inscriptions on the ring along the circumference: “ДРЕВНИЕ ГОРОДА РОССИИ” (ANCIENT TOWNS OF RUSSIA) on top and “ВЕЛИКИЕ ЛУКИ” (VELIKIYE LUKI) at the bottom.

The mintage of the coins is 5000000 pcs of each design. 

Coins of the series “Towns of Martial Glory” are 22.0 mm in diameter, yellow in colour and have the rim raised on both sides of the coins along the circumference. The edge of the coins is corrugated, each section contains different number of corrugations alternating with smooth sections.

The obverse side of the coins has inscriptions along the circumference: “БАНК РОССИИ” (BANK OF RUSSIA) on top, “2016” at the bottom. On the left and on the right there are stylized images of laurel and oak branches respectively. In the center of the disc there is an indication of the face value of the coin “10 РУБЛЕЙ” (10 ROUBLES) in two lines. Inside the figure “0” there is a protective element in the form of the figure “10” and an inscription “РУБ” (RUB) visible when changing angles of vision. In the lower part of the disc there is a trademark of a Mint.

The reverse side:

  • of the second coin has a relief image of an emblem of Feodosiya. There are inscriptions along the circumference: “ГОРОДА ВОИНСКОЙ СЛАВЫ” (TOWNS OF MARTIAL GLORY) on top and “ФЕОДОСИЯ” (FEODOSIYA) at the bottom.

The mintage of the coins is 10000000 pcs of each design.

The coins are legal tender of the Russian Federation. They are obligatory for acceptance for all kinds of payments without any restrictions at their face value.
