OREANDA-NEWS. Zonnepark XXL was officially opened at the TT Circuit in Assen on 22 June 2016. This solar park forms a carport on top of the world’s largest motorcycle parking lot. ABN AMRO and Drentse Energie Organisatie are responsible for financing the park.

The solar park is an initiative of GroenLeven, Bovemij, Tamoil Nederland, the TT Circuit Assen and the Dutch province of Drenthe, and was constructed by businesses based in the north of the Netherlands (Groenleven, Van der Wiel Infra & Milieu and Mannen van Staal). The car park at the TT Circuit, which accommodates 14,000 motorcycles (covering approximately 6 hectares), has a roof with more than 21,000 solar panels. The panels can generate enough energy to supply 2,000 families with a year’s worth of power (5.6 megawatt). The power generated by the park will be used by Tamoil Nederland, TT Circuit Assen and interested residents.
