OREANDA-NEWS. SOGAZ Insurance Group will provide coverage of assets of 10 nuclear power plants of Rosenergoatom Concern JSC. The total sum insured under the annual contract is 1.24 trillion RUB.

Reactors, turbines, other mechanisms and equipment, buildings and structures of nuclear power plants will be insured against natural, man-induced and other risks. The contract will cover the property of 10 Rosenergoatom branches such as Balakovskaya, Beloyarskaya, Bilibinskaya, Kalininskaya, Kolskaya, Kurskaya, Leningradskaya, Novovoronezhskaya, Rostovskaya and Smolenskaya nuclear power plants.

'SOGAZ has been providing insurance coverage for the nuclear power plants of Rosenergoatom Concern since 2008. Risks are ceded to the participants of the Russian Nuclear Reinsurance Pool and to the Multinational Pooling System (MPS) if in excess of the Russian pool capacity', noted Nikolay Galushin, First Deputy Chairman of the Board of SOGAZ, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Russian Nuclear Reinsurance Pool. The coverage includes the so-called nuclear risks which is an exception in the regular insurance practice.

Three insurance companies participated in the closed invitation to tender for the NPP property insurance contract.

Rosenergoatom Concern JSC is one of the major players of the Russian electric power industry and the only Russian company acting as a nuclear power plant operator.
