OREANDA-NEWS. Banks of Belarus have joined the financial messaging system (FMS) of the Central Bank of Russia. This was announced on Thursday, December 9, by the head of the development and regulation department of the national payment system of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, Denis Baryshkov.
According to him, the system has demonstrated a high level of reliability; 38 participants from nine countries have already connected to it.
“As of today, the payment infrastructure of Armenia, Belarus and Kyrgyzstan is fully disclosed for accepting cards of the Mir payment system, the dialogue with credit institutions - residents of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the issue of organizing the acceptance of Mir cards in their infrastructure continues. In addition to the possibility of using national payment instruments throughout the EAEU, the opportunity to transfer funds by card number has also been implemented, ”he said during the VIII National Payment Forum.
SPFS was created as an alternative to the international payment system SWIFT after information about its possible shutdown in Russia.
A day earlier, Vladimir Dzhabarov, First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, assessed the likelihood of Russia disconnecting from the SWIFT global financial system. The senator said that it is impossible to disconnect the Russian Federation from SWIFT and block the country's debt obligations, because Russia is one of the largest players in the global economy.
Bloomberg reported on December 7 that the US and the European Union (EU) are now considering the introduction of new sanctions against Russia, which will affect the banking sector.
