Crossing Yangtze River Memorial Opened
OREANDA-NEWS. November 29, 2012. The opening ceremony of the Crossing the Yangtze River Campaign Memorial Hall was held at Binhu district in Hefei, the capital of Anhui province, on Wednesday.
The museum, in the shape of two warships sailing side by side, consists of the exhibition zone, the experience zone, the underwater hall, the military hall and the military medal hall.
The museum features the largest indoor sculpture in China: the Triumphant Army, more than 1,000 military relics, a huge painting depicting the breathtaking scene of the Crossing the Yangtze River Campaign and a lifelike 4D movie about the battle.
The relics reportedly include guns used by generals, a compass used in wars, a matchbox-shaped dictionary, an operational telescope and weapons and equipments that were captured from the enemy.
By blending ways of commemoration with modern techniques, the museum as a whole presents a panorama of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) traveling across the Yangtze River, the longest waterway in the country, to emancipate the nation from the rule of Kuomingtang, known as the Chinese Nationalist Party.
The museum will open to the public for free.
Sun Jinlong, deputy secretary of the Anhui Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), and Wu Gangzhong, vice political commissar of the PLA Nanjing Military Region, cut the ribbon at the opening ceremony.
