UNODC Discussed Collaboration with Turkmenistan
OREANDA-NEWS. October 19, 2011. A delegation of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) led by Miwa Kato, Programme Management Officer, who had arrived in the Turkmen capital, was received at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
A lively discussion of priority issues of collaboration which is developed successfully within Turkmenistan-UNDOC bilateral cooperation and the United Nations Organization took place in a businesslike atmosphere during the meeting. As is known, having announced its firm peace-loving constructive foreign policy strategy at the 66th session of the UN General Assembly, our country presented its concept of peaceful and safe development whose essence is reflected in the slogan “Peace through development”.
During the meeting the Programme Management Officer underlined wide recognition of the tremendous efforts the Turkmen state took under the initiative of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to build up international cooperation in combating illicit drug traffic and money laundering on a global scale and tackling other threats to peace and security on the planet.
As is known, our country as a party to the relevant UN agreements and conventions cooperates with many authoritative UN structures, including the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs for the period of 2012-2015 and meets the commitments undertaken.
Emphasizing that the UNODC welcomed and supported the Turkmen leader’s peace building initiatives to address global threats and modern challenges, the representative of the authoritative UN agency expressed the keen interest in fostering cooperation for the benefit of the region and the world.
During the visit to Turkmenistan the UNODC delegation had the meetings at a number of Turkmen ministries and departments including the State Service on Drugs of Turkmenistan.
