OREANDA-NEWS. August 10, 2010. A series of terrorist acts was carried out during the first week of August in the Iraqi capital Baghdad, the cities of Ramadi, Basra and a number of others, killing a total of about 100 people and injuring more than 200 others, according to media reports. Although Iraqi service members and policemen were targeted, most of the killed and wounded are civilians, including women and children.

We strongly condemn these bloody crimes entailing innocent people’s deaths and wounds. Terror attacks can never be justified whatever the motives of their organizers and perpetrators.

We express condolences to the relatives of the dead, and sympathy for those injured and their families.

Moscow continues to believe that the task of eradicating terror calls for the unification of efforts by all Iraqis on the basis of the conduct of an all-embracing inter-Iraqi dialogue and the achievement of national consensus. This is the path to create lasting stability in Iraq and consolidate its unity, sovereignty and independence. In this connection we again call for the expeditious completion of the formation of new bodies of power – the leadership of parliament, the presidential council and the government, which would enable an effective solution to the urgent tasks in combating terrorism and restoring normal life in the country.
