OREANDA-NEWS. July 28, 2010. In these days Jan Sand Sorensen, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Country Director ad interim for Turkmenistan is on a visit to Turkmenistan. During the visit the UN high-ranking representative was received at the ministries and departments of the country.

The sides exchanged views on the ways to continue constructive collaboration between Turkmenistan and the leading UN agency under ongoing and future joint projects were During the meetings at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry, the Ministry of Education, the State Statistics Committee, the Turkmen National Institute for Democracy and Human Rights under the President of Turkmenistan, the Institute of Strategic Planning and Economic Development, the Maternity and Child Health Research and Clinic Centre.

In this regard a key role was assigned to effective cooperation in implementing the Health National Programme developed by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov who launched fundamental reforms in the Turkmen health sector.

Exchanging views the sides underscore the need to concert further efforts to implement population and reproductive health programmes. Evaluating positively the grandiose changes taking place in the country, the UNFPA representative expressed the readiness to provide further comprehensive support in the framework of ongoing activities in the health sector.
