Dmitry Medvedev Met with Director of Federal Security Service
OREANDA-NEWS. May 13, 2010. The President was briefed on the ongoing investigations of the terrorist attacks in the Moscow metro and the explosions at the Raspadskaya Mine in the Kemerovo Region.
Director of the Federal Security Service (FSB) Alexander Bortnikov and Chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Prosecutor General’s Office Alexander Bastrykin reported on the progress in the investigations of the terrorist attacks in the Moscow metro on March 29, 2010 which killed 40 and injured over one hundred people.
Mr Bortnikov informed of the operation against three members of the terrorist group behind the explosions; the criminals resisted arrest and were eliminated. According to FSB Director, all the participants in the terror acts - those who carried them out and the masterminds - have been identified and are now traced; the physical evidence has been gathered, the relevant expert reports have been drafted, and all the criminal case materials have been submitted to the Investigative Committee of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
The President requested to be regularly updated on the investigation of this most serious crime. He stressed that terrorists who resist arrest must be annihilated as they deserve no mercy.
Mr Bastrykin reported on the investigation of the explosions at the coal mine in the Kemerovo Region, where two blasts resulted in a large number of dead and injured in the early hours of May 9. An active investigation is underway at the site of the accident assessing every possible cause behind the tragedy.
Dmitry Medvedev stressed that the results of the investigation should absolutely be made public and noted that technological lessons should be learned from the tragedy, since it is the technological factors that in one way or the other led to the tragic accident.
