OREANDA-NEWS. February 11, 2010. As he opened the meeting Dmitry Medvedev declared that the modernisation of Russia's economy must be based on new technologies and the radical restructuring of the country's internal economic structure.

Mr Medvedev pointed to the need to change Russia's image as a commodity economy. We must invest in technological change and an innovative economy, the President said.

Dmitry Medvedev arrived in Tomsk to hold a meeting of the Commission for Modernisation and Technological Development of Russia’s Economy.

Tomsk is a renowned research and educational centre due to its six universities.
