OREANDA-NEWS. October 23, 2009. In Moscow the joint meeting of the Board of Ministries of Defence of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation was held under the chairmanship of the Minister of Defence of Russia Anatoly Serdyukov.

Opening the meeting of the joint panel, the head of the Defence Ministry of Russia noted that much had been done to establish a system of armed protection of the Union State, which correctness was confirmed by the results of the large-scale operational-strategic exercises "West - 2009", carried out in September.

First of all, the meeting reviewed the results of implementation of the Plan of joint activities of the Ministries of Defence of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation for ensuring military security of the Union State for 2007-2009 and approved the Plan of joint activities for 2010-2012.

The operational-strategic (operational) exercise in Russia in 2011was determined as the main activity of joint training of the armed forces of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation.

The sides adopted the Plan of implementation of the results of the operative-and-strategic exercises "West 2009".

The meeting also discussed issues of cooperation between defence departments in the area of electronic warfare, operation of the joint communications system of the regional grouping of troops (forces) of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation, improving its logistics. The meeting discussed implementation of the Comprehensive plan of information management of military cooperation between the two states.

The defence ministers of Russia and the Republic of Belarus approved the work plan for the joint Board in 2010.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Anatoly Serdyukov said that relations between the two countries are strong allies in nature. They should cherish this and continue to strengthen efforts to establish the legal foundations of the military organisation of the Union State, as well as to conduct joint practical measures, he added.
