Divorce Rate among Young Families of Azerbaijan Is 10-11%
OREANDA-NEWS. December 31, 2008. A roundtable on public discussion of Bill on Reproductive Health & Family Planning has been held in Azerbaijan.
During the meeting Aynur Sofiyeva, deputy chairman of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children, said that according to statistics, 50-60% of young families in European countries divorce.
“In Azerbaijan divorce rate among the young families is stable 10-11%,” she added.
In the course of debates it was voiced a range of proposals on the theme.
“In different countries of the world there is relevant legislation on reproduction health and family planning. Adoption of such a law in Azerbaijan will play an important role for taking into account national mentality, national values and family traditions,” Sofiyeva said.
The Bill is under discussion of Milli Majlis.
Faiza Aliyeva, the director of the Research Institute of Gynaecology & Obstetrics of the Ministry of Health of Azerbaijan, said that according to the poll, 38.5% of women in Azerbaijan stop pregnancy in an artificial way because of its unwillingness.
“16.4% of them abort because of gender of the child do not conform to their desire,” Aliyeva said.
