OREANDA-NEWS. December 29, 2008. The capital reconstruction of the 216-274-km part of the Tashkent-Osh motorway is now underway in Ferghana Province, according to the report by Uzbekistan National News Agency later last week.

Previously, this motorway of international importance, which links Ferghana and Andijan provinces with Uzbekistan's capital city of Tashkent, passed through the city of Kokand.

As the city developed and the population increased, the traffic on the Kokand ring road has significantly intensified, the report said.

With an aim to ease the traffic, the new motorway is being built between Uch Uy and Chagali villages of Ferghana Province. Currently, the second stage of the construction is just about to be completed.

After the motorway is launched, the distance of the route to Tashkent from the two aformentioned provinces is expected to be shortened by 18 kilometers (11 miles).
