OREANDA-NEWS. November 26, 2008. Gomel is playing host to research conference “Pages of Military History of Gomel Region”. Attending the forum are representatives of research centers and museums of Belarus and the Russian Federation.

The conference is timed to the 65th anniversary of liberation of Gomel from the Nazi invaders. The research forum will discuss the military history of the Gomel region in the 11th - 19th centuries and also the participation of Gomel residents in local wars and military conflicts of the 20th century.

Forum’s reports are dedicated to the Gomel-Rechitsa operation of 1943, the military commanders who were born in the Gomel oblast, the life of the population on the territories liberated after occupation and other problems.
