Council of Belarus National Assembly Elected Chairman
OREANDA-NEWS. November 1, 2008. Boris Batura was elected Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the fourth convocation at the first session of the upper chamber of the parliament on October 31. 49 deputies voted in favour, no one against.
Boris Batura was born in the town of Volkovysk of the Grodno oblast in 1947. He graduated from the Belarusian Polytechnical Institute in 1970. An honoured worker of the service industry of the Republic of Belarus. He worked as a shop foreman, an engineer-technologist, headed the Volkovysk utilities company and the utilities department of the Grodno oblast executive committee. In 1987-1990 he served as Deputy Minister of Housing and Municipal Economy, in 1990-1999 – as Minister of Housing and Municipal Economy. In 1999-2000 served as Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus, in November 2000 – as Chairman of the Mogilev oblast executive committee. Boris Batura was a member of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus of the second and third convocations.
