Turkmen Manat – Foothold of National Economy
OREANDA-NEWS. October 20, 2008. The scientific production conference on occasion of the 17th anniversary of independence of Turkmenistan and 15th anniversary of introduction the national currency – manat was held at the central Bank of Turkmenistan. The forum brought together the specialists of the banks, financial and economic establishments, tax and statistical agencies and the lecturers of the higher educational establishments and banking school.
Speaking at the conference the heads of the banks noted that the manat had become a symbol of the firm foundations of independence and sovereignty of Turkmenistan. Being the reliable means of payment inside the country for 15 years the manat had turned into the effective financial instrument of sustainable economic development. Stability and security of the national currency ranked among the major sources of steady increase of the people’s welfare.
The conference focused on upcoming denomination of the national currency unit. Those speaking at the conference noted that denomination aimed at improving the money circulation and ensuring effective functioning of the Turkmen manat was an important step towards implementing the currency and financial reform initiated by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. Touching upon the importance tasks set to the financial sector the participants expressed belief that introduction of the denominated manat would promote national economic development and stable growth of investments in economy and enhancing Turkmenistan’s rating on the world market.
The reports on the approaches to improvement of the financial and credit, tax systems, development of the private sector of national economy, personnel training were presented at the conference.
The reports were supplemented with the exposition on the history of the national currency. The stands with the old and current money of the Turkmen people reflected all the stages of circulation of money in the territory of Turkmenistan from ancient till our times. The memorable coins minted from the precious metals issued by the Central Bank of Turkmenistan during the years of independence, the government awards of Turkmenistan and the books about the history of money were presented at the exposition.
The exposition included the unique archeological finds, amazing specimens of the Turkmen weapon and national women’s silver jewelry.
