OREANDA-NEWS. July 23, 2008. Dmitry Medvedev Signed the Federal Law on Amendments to the Federal Law 'On the Basic Guarantees for Russian Federation Citizens' Electoral Rights and Right to Participate in Referendums'.

The law stipulates that the mandate of local self-government bodies can be extended or shortened by no more than one year for the purposes of bringing voting for local self-government bodies together on one day.

Decisions to extend or shorten local self-government bodies’ mandates in such cases are made by the given region of the Russian Federation.
