OREANDA-NEWS. July 22, 2008. Starting from last year Azerbaijan has toughened fighting drug addiction and illicit  traffic of narcotic and psychotropic substances that, acording to the Baku City Main Police Department, has given its good results.

Gen.May Rafik Abbasov, the BCMPD chief, said that in the first half of the year it was withdrawn 110,394 kg of illicit drugs in Baku versus 45,574 kg for Jan-Jun 2007.

“In particular it was withdrawn 50,836 kg of hashish, 8,574 kg of heroine, 11,293 kg of opium, 39,690 kg of cannabs,” he added.

By the present the country has approved State Programme on Combating against Drug Addiction & Illicit Drugs Traffic.
