OREANDA-NEWS. June 10, 2008.  Dmitry Medvedev congratulated Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Alexei II on the anniversary of his enthronement.

The message reads, in particular:

“Your years of service as Patriarch are an example of true selfless devotion and belief in the chosen path and patriarchal duty. They represent a true milestone in the life of the Russian Orthodox Church and our country. Thanks to your work of the ancient institution of the patriarchate has been enriched with considerable experience. Moreover, the current practice of fruitful interaction between the Church and public authorities has taken on new content.

Today the Russian Orthodox Church is a reliable partner for the state in resolving Russia's most important social and educational problems. And, of course, the Church is fully realizing its enormous potential by confirming family values, paying a great deal of attention to the moral upbringing of the younger generation, and promoting interconfessional and interethnic dialogue.

We fully endorse and support the efforts of the Moscow Patriarchate to strengthen ties with compatriots abroad and, in general, to consolidate the unity of the Orthodox Church”.
