OREANDA-NEWS. The United Nations Organization intends to continue implementation of the joint projects with Belarus in the sphere of fight against crime, Mr Antonio Maria Costa, UN Deputy Secretary General, Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and Director-General of the United Nations Office in Vienna noted after his meeting with Belarusian Interior Minister Vladimir Naumov in Minsk on May 27.

According to him, the programme of the cooperation of the Belarusian Government and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime has been thoroughly considered for a long time. It includes such components as the fight against illegal drugs turnover, human trafficking and also the crimes in high-tech sphere.

The UN official noted that Belarus is a country of drugs’ transit. Especially, it concerns synthetic drugs. It is necessary to join the efforts of the UNO, Belarus and other countries to counteract this threat. So, there is a need to use the possibilities of the international centre for training and retraining specialists in migration and prevention of trafficking in people of the Belarusian Interior Ministry more active. The centre can also train specialists in this sphere for other countries.

On May 27, Mr Antonio Maria Costa intends to pay a visit to the international centre for training and retraining specialists in migration and prevention of trafficking in people of the Belarusian Interior Ministry. The UN Deputy Secretary General will get familiar with the work of the centre and make a speech for students and professors of the Academy of the Belarusian Interior Ministry.
