Belarusian Medicine Should Handle Cutting-Edge Tasks
OREANDA-NEWS. April 10, 2008. Belarusian medicine should handle cutting-edge tasks, said President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko on April 10 as he met with the doctors who had performed Belarus’ first liver transplantation.
According to the President, with this in mind the establishment of the national scientific practical centre for transplantology at premises of Minsk’s clinic hospital No 9 should be expedited. “If we don’t open it soon, we may be late and will never catch up. If people can operate at such a level, they should be given opportunities. To preserve the available potential, the highly qualified specialists, is the most important thing,” underscored Alexander Lukashenko.
The institution will concentrate unique equipment on the national scale, highly qualified medical personnel, who were trained in the best clinics of Europe, and will create favourable conditions for developing medical science in Belarus. The introduction of extra complicated surgeries, organ and tissue transplantation surgeries will allow Belarusians to stop going abroad for treatment.
The head of state remarked, the transplantation of organs and tissues should be done on a wider scale. “Cutting-edge goals should be set. Though singular liver transplantations in Belarus are a small achievement on the international scale, it should be borne in mind that tomorrow thousands of surgeries will be performed,” said the President. Alexander Lukashenko also underscored, the new facility should be equipped with the latest tools.
