Work to Ensure Nuclear & Radiation Safety in Russia Rated High by IAEA
OREANDA-NEWS. IAEA highly evaluates Russia's compliance with nuclear and radiation safety, IAEA Deputy Director General Tomohiro Taniguchi said during a meeting with the head of the Federal Service for Ecological, Technological and Nuclear Control Konstantin Pulikovsky, the press-service of Rostekhnadzor, Russian state technical surveilance agency, reports.
In his turn, Pulikovsky told Taniguchi about Russia's work to ensure the safety of its nuclear power plants and other nuclear facilities. "We are open and conduct joint inspections with our foreign colleagues. Our NPPs are safe and our cooperation with IAEA helps us to further enhance their safety and to share our experience with other countries," said Pulikovsky .
Mr Taniguchi said that the Training Center in Obninsk is a good example of how one can effectively train nuclear and radiation safety specialists. He commended Rostekhnadzor for its plans to unify its safety standards for all sectors (construction, power engineering, industry, nuclear power engineering). Taniguchi said that Japan has already done it but many countries have not. So, in this light, "Russia's experience might be quite important".
